Upper Austria's capital Linz, DanubeLINZ, Europe's host 2009 Over the past decades, Linz, the town on the Danube, has turned into a vibrant centre between East and West. No other Austrian town has undergone such a marked change as Upper Austria's capital. Today, Linz is a modern town whose numerous greens and good air quality provide an optimal living environment for citizens and visitors alike. In 2009 Linz will be Europe's Cultural Capital and thus Europe's host. For the cultural capital year numerous buildings have been constructed that blend in harmoniously with the townscape. Event-Highlights Linz09: "Best of Austria" | 2 January - 10 May 2009: the best of Austria's 30 leading museums, galleries and collections on display under one roof in the Lentos Kunstmuseum. "The green strip of Europe" | 2 July 2009 - 8 January 2010: Exhibition about the development of the fauna and flora within the border strip between East and West Europe, Schlossmuseum Linz. "Linz Europe Festival" | 3 - 5 July 2009: Hubert von Goisern along with musicians from his two tours along Europe's rivers meet during a three-day spectacle in the Linz harbour.
