Nativity tree in the Town square

Even before the Middle Ages, simple nativity trees and wooden board nativity scenes were arranged along the outer walls of churches. In this way people who were not allowed to enter the church could participate in the celebration and commemoration of the birth of Jesus Christ. The Steyr nativity tree was created by the nativity scene maker Josef Seidl in cooperation with a club of nativity scene friends from Vorarlberg (1993/94).

Raft nativity scene at the confluence

This wooden board nativity scene was erected on three connected rafts (5x3m each) by nativity scene maker Josef Seidl in 2004. The figures (up to 160 cm high) are painted on both sides and may be viewed both from the Enns and Steyr bridges. At night the floats are illuminated.

The first raft shows the Angel of Annunciation together with shepherds and sheep in the field, the second the Holy Family and the third the Three Kings and a raftsman
